Somatic Experiencing for Parents
Supporting Your Nervous System, So You Can Support Theirs
Parenting—especially in the context of trauma, neurodivergence, or high stress—can be overwhelming. At Happy Senses, we offer Somatic Experiencing® (SE) as a gentle, body-based therapy designed to help you regulate your nervous system, release built-up stress, and reconnect with a sense of internal safety.
Whether you’re parenting a child with complex needs, healing from your own past, or simply feeling burnt out—SE provides a pathway to greater steadiness, presence, and resilience. We believe that supporting parents is just as vital as supporting children. You don’t have to carry it all alone.
Emma Snowdon, currently in her intermediate year of Somatic Experiencing Practitioner training, is offering SE sessions at a reduced rate. Get in touch to find out more or book a session.
What Is Somatic Experiencing?
Developed by Dr. Peter Levine, Somatic Experiencing® is a trauma-informed, body-focused approach to healing the effects of stress, trauma, and overwhelm—without needing to relive painful memories.
Rather than focusing solely on thoughts or emotions, SE works through the body’s innate ability to process and release survival energy. By bringing awareness to physical sensations (your "felt sense"), SE helps you safely complete incomplete stress responses that may be "stuck" in the nervous system.
SE is particularly effective for:
-
Chronic stress or burnout
-
PTSD and unresolved trauma
-
Parenting challenges related to trauma or neurodivergence
-
Nervous system dysregulation (e.g. anxiety, shutdown, hypervigilance)
Inspired by how wild animals naturally shake off trauma after life-threatening events, SE taps into the same instinctive healing mechanisms we all possess—but often suppress. With support, you can release this held survival energy, reduce symptoms, and reclaim a sense of balance.
If you're curious about how Somatic Experiencing could support you, we’d love to talk.
