"It is the experience of being in connection that fulfils the longing we have to feel fully alive.  An impaired capacity for connection to self and others and the ensuing diminished aliveness are the hidden dimensions that underlie most psychological and may physiological problems."  Aline Lapierre, PTYD and Laurence Heller, PHD

NeuroAffective Touch®

Connection Begins with the Body

At Happy Senses, we understand that healing isn’t always about finding the right words—sometimes it starts with reconnecting to the body.

NeuroAffective Touch® (NATouch™) is a somatic, trauma-informed approach that uses safe, attuned touch to support emotional regulation, attachment, and healing—particularly when traditional talk therapies aren’t enough.

For parents who are carrying the weight of stress, unresolved trauma, or feeling disconnected from themselves, this therapy offers a way to restore safety, presence, and wholeness. It’s especially powerful for those parenting children with complex needs or trauma histories.

We honour the body as a vital part of the healing journey—not just for children, but for the caregivers who support them.

What Is NeuroAffective Touch?

NeuroAffective Touch® is a therapeutic approach that integrates somatic touch with relational and developmental therapy. Developed to reach areas of emotional and early relational trauma that talk therapy often cannot access, it works by combining body awareness, regulated touch, and a compassionate therapeutic relationship.

Rooted in:

  • Polyvagal theory

  • Attachment and developmental psychology

  • Somatic psychotherapy and interpersonal neurobiology

…it helps re-establish a balanced and embodied connection between mind and body.

Through gentle, mindful touch and presence, NATouch engages multiple systems—skin, fascia, nervous system, muscles, and organs—to help the body release stored stress and repattern relational imprints from early experiences.

How Is It Different from Traditional Bodywork?

Unlike traditional massage or bodywork—which focuses on physical posture, movement, or relaxation—NeuroAffective Touch is explicitly designed to work with the emotional and psychological responses that live in the body.

It integrates:

  • Bottom-up support (through safe, attuned touch)

  • Top-down awareness (via cognitive reflection and emotional processing)

This approach allows clients to experience how thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations form an interconnected whole—leading to deeper self-understanding, safety, and repair.

NeuroAffective Touch is particularly suited for:

  • Parents healing from developmental or attachment trauma

  • Adults feeling chronically dysregulated or disconnected

  • Those looking to deepen body-mind integration in a safe, supported space

Emma Snowdon has achieved her Foundation Graduate Certificate in NeuroAffective Touch.
